After a long hiatus from Elance, a job outsourcing bidding site for freelancers, I decided to give it another try.  Since I am a transcriptionist and a writer, I signed up for both categories - $15 for 25 connects or credits to bid.  (Most bids will cost you one connect, but some require two).   


I typed in the keyword 'transcription' to look for related projects.  Most of the people are searching for top notch transcripts, but list pay rates of $10-$15.  I found that to be insulting.  Keep in mind that this is not everyone; just the ones that I came across. I'm sorry but $10 for one hour of audio is absurd and while some people will accept it, I will not.

I decided to go over to the writing category and see if my luck would be better and I'm happy to say that it was.  A buyer accepted my offer and I completed the project one day early.  I have to say that I did have to make one set of revisions as the client was looking for a more personal approach, but the end result was 'wow, that's an awesome article,' followed by immediate payment through PayPal.  I was also asked if they could offer me other projects in the future - of course, I said yes.

It's nice to see that some people don't mind paying for quality work.  I know I could have probably gotten paid 20% more for the project, but a great client and quick payment certainly makes up for it - and it was a fair rate of pay.

I have about 12 more connects for Elance, so we'll see how it goes.  Maybe I'll sign up again next month.

Elance does offer a free membership.  I think you only get 3 connects or something like that, but it is certainly worth giving it a try.   SIGN UP NOW
